Only a few hours now until ‘Challenge 69’ resumes, with ‘Track 21’ set for release at 9am tomorrow morning …
… and then, just 24 hours later, our ‘mystery’ finally starts to unravel!
The novel has, clearly, always been constructed in a way that allowed me, in parallel, to write about some of the music (and musicians) I have long treasured, and ‘Track 21’, despite nominally being themed around Nick Cave, brings this all together with a rundown (built into the text) of Stuart’s ‘top twenty albums of all-time. These may of course bear more than a passing resemblance to the author’s own selections!
You will need to wait for tomorrow’s ‘T21/Part 1’ for Stuart’s list to be revealed but, given counter-argument is the lifeblood of any decent musical list, I decided to set my protagonist’s choices in a bit of context (as I wrote the story, a couple of years ago) by asking two loyal ‘C69’ readers to choose their own ‘best ever’ albums.
So a belated thank-you to my very good friends Tim and Keith; not only for allowing me to use (and occasionally abuse!) them as loose templates for the Ed and Charlie characters in my book, but also for providing their own top album tips; with a track from each making up this week’s playlist (even if I still don’t ‘get’ Tom Waits!)
If, of course, any other ‘C69’ reader would like to join this debate, then I would love to hear your own top (or top three?) album(s) of all-time, so please feel free to use the button below to have your say.
