Brians of Britain
Let’s face it, Brian is never going to be a very Rock’n’Roll name (not even if you try jazzing it up a bit by spelling it with a y) …
… any more than it would ever make an appropriate moniker for a Messiah!
Which makes it all the more remarkable that this week’s illustrious playlist cast (step forward Messrs Connolly, Eno, Ferry, Jones, May, and Molko) stuck with their given forenames, in plotting their paths to fame, rather than taking the Reg Dwight route.
The most surprising (and lazy?) of all must be Eno, who had so many options readily to hand having been christened Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno!
Whatever ‘handle’ they operated under though, this is a great 25 minutes of music …
… all kicked off by what may well be my favourite ‘intro’ ever; Brian Jones putting George Harrison firmly in his place with Rock’s greatest ever use of a sitar!
(It’s surely hard to imagine a picture that screams out, “sixties music,’ more than this one!)
