Given this is a mid-point post between ‘Track 3’ (which seems to have been received, or at least opened, enthusiastically) and ‘Track 4’ (now in heavy pre-publishing edit mode), I thought I would name it after the grooves between songs on a vinyl album.
Apparently, some recording engineers refer to this as a ‘spiral’, which I like the sound of. Admittedly it’s more often called a ‘spread’, but ‘Friday Spread’ just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
I’ve been regularly posting to the new #challenge69musicalmystery Instagram page, and building up a steady stream of followers, but I’m sure there’s still a few more of you who could join the party.
One of my Instagram disciplines has been to post a daily ‘Challenge 69 Recommends’ song slot. The task I set myself was this had to be a song that I’d never heard before (or at least couldn’t remember), mixing up new music with tunes I somehow missed, “first time around.” I thought this might prove a challenge (if you’ll excuse the pun) but by listening to ‘6 Music’ and following a few other music orientated Substack writers it has been remarkably easy to pull together.
So, today’s playlist is a rerun of the first five days-worth of ‘C69 Recommends’ songs, I hope you enjoy them. My overall favourite is ‘Tiny Planets’ from Remember Sports, a band from Philadelphia.
Finally, I’ve had a few people asking me, “why did you write the book,” so I’ve been crafting a few thoughts on my motivations and hope to have this ready to post sometime over the weekend.
We’re away next week to visit Jordan (sometimes referred to as Joe!) in France, so you all might get a break as well. Although note: I did say might!
