Everybody knows the perfect pop song should be around three minutes long.
The Only Ones even managed to hit this mark with precision for (the perfect in so many ways) ‘Another Girl Another Planet’.
But, prompted by the appearance of Wire’s ‘Outdoor Miner’ in the last ‘Challenge 69’ chapter, with its running time of just 105 seconds, I got thinking about whether taking a full 180 was entirely necessary. Even possibly a bit self indulgent.
Sometimes less really is more, so why not take up less than a sixtieth of your day by listening to the fourteen mini masterpieces below in less than twenty-four minutes.

Despite inviting reader input in an earlier post, and receiving in return some great Stateside suggestions (that make my list less parochial), I couldn’t quite bring myself to bin any of my own ‘top ten’. So, what the hell, I just added them to the micro-mix!
