As promised, I’ll be sending out a soundtrack/playlist for each chapter (after it’s published) reflecting all the songs and artists referenced in the text. So, here’s the ‘Track 2’ version.
I think this playlist works well, with the ‘best female voice’ bias of the chapter meaning you get eighteen female vocalists across its twenty tracks.
One point to note: ‘Stop the Tide’ by His Latest Flame, described in the chapter as a ‘lost single’ has truly disappeared. It’s not available on Spotify nor, seemingly, traceable to be heard anywhere else online. I’ve replaced it with another track of theirs called ‘American Blue’ but believe me it’s not a patch on ‘Stop the Tide’. It seems the only way you’ll be able to judge that for yourselves though is to pop round to my house and ask me to play the single!
Finally, as an added bonus, I’ve attached the YouTube video of 10,000 Maniacs playing ‘My Mother the War’ in Newcastle in 1985 (as mentioned in ‘Track 2’). It doesn’t match up to my (or should I say Stuart’s!) thirty-seven-year-old idealised memory of their Clarendon encore, but it’s not far off.

Enjoy the music, and it would be great if you could add a ‘comment’ below on what you made of ‘Track 2’ (good or bad).
Remember, it’s less than two weeks to wait this time until ‘Track 3’ is released.
