The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Writer!
Please respond!
As previously signalled there are now just three episodes of ‘Challenge 69’ left to be published, with the whole thing ‘done and dusted’ by 8 August, a year after we started.
I have loved the whole process of serialising my novel, and been greatly encouraged by both the ‘hundreds’ of (worldwide!) subscribers and the way that the ‘opening rate’ for each post has held up so strongly through the year.
So a big THANK YOU once again to everybody who has stuck with ‘Challenge 69’, I really hope you have enjoyed reading it (even half) as much as I did writing it …
… but if I have one regret, it is that (by the very nature of serialising a book) the posts disappear out into the email ether and, other than the somewhat impersonal statistic of an ‘open rate’, I get little ‘in the moment’ feedback as to how much people are really reading and (more importantly) engaging with my story.
It can sometimes, as the post title suggests, end up being a bit of a lonely pursuit.
So can I please ask for a straw poll on, “what you think of it so far?”
There are two easy ways to respond:
Ideally, I’d love it if a few of you would take a minute or two to click the comment button below and let me know (good or bad) what you’ve made of ‘Challenge 69’, or
If you haven’t the time to do that, then please just press the post’s ‘like’ button to help me dig beneath that ‘open rate’ and find out who is still listening!
Thanks in advance for responding, it’s very much appreciated.
And as for the post’s title …
… well if you haven’t previously read it, then I would highly recommend you track down the book below and give it a try.
Alan Silitoe’s short story may only be 42 pages long but, almost 50 years after first reading it, I still regard it as one of the best written (most impactful) tales ever told.
It was books like this that encouraged me (in a stumbling way) to give it a go myself!
