It was only as I came to compile ‘Track 13’s soundtrack that I realised just how many artists/songs I had mentioned during ‘Challenge 69’s latest instalment. I guess if you base a chapter around a visit to a festival then there is a degree of inevitability it will end up featuring a lot of music!
As a result the latest soundtrack, in order to stay true to the text, has ended up being built to (two and a half hour) colossus like proportions.
I don’t expect anybody, even amongst the keenest ‘C69’ playlist advocates, will manage to work their way right through this, but the ‘lists sheer length and eclecticism at least means it includes a bit of something for everybody if you want to dip in, even if (as seems unlikely) you are a big fan of James Blunt and Lewis Capaldi.
Personally, I particularly enjoyed a mono slice of Kinks blurring seamlessly into Blur.
If however a ‘five-minute’ bite better suits your musical appetite, then I did discover the following video online. This not only features Gorillaz playing a great rendition of ‘Clint Eastwood’ (Stuart’s favourite!) at Sziget in 2018, it also appears to have been fittingly filmed from the exact (back of the arena) viewpoint described in ‘Track 13’.
Gorillaz - 'Clint Eastwood' - Sziget 2018
I’ve always been a sucker for a bit of melodica!
