I’ll start with another big thankyou to everybody who has already read ‘Track 6’. Once again this has reached ‘Challenge 69’s highest readership so far. I hope you are all enjoying the story.
This episode’s ‘challenge’ must clearly have been more practical to solve as I received a few correct entries. The chapter’s stand-out ‘challenger’ though has to be Jane N, who got back to me with a correct solution less than two hours after ‘Track 6’ was posted (although I have heard rumour she has been organising her work shifts around my publication dates!) Congratulations Jane, excellent quizzing.
As usual, I’ve attached below a playlist of all the songs/artists referenced in ‘Track 6’. I really don’t expect many of you will work your way through all seventy-eight minutes of this, but if you are considering dipping in then I would highly recommend the New York section; from Leonard Cohen’s ‘Chelsea Hotel #2’ through to Talking Heads’ ‘Life During Wartime’.
Sheffield’s Limit Club proved a great place to see the best of the punk/post-punk period, but I can’t help feeling a pang of regret over missing out on CBGBs!
For an additional aural bonus this time (following my previous attempt to resurrect Jeff B’s Tunnelrunners) I have attached another reader produced song as an audio file (if the attachment works!). This one never saw the light of day of a full release, but it’s an interesting (and catchy) slice of Americana (out of Wales!) recorded by Nigel J and a few friends back in 1982. Take a listen and see what you think?
This may now be becoming an emerging trend (anybody else got a song to offer up?), as I’m currently liaising with another reader on something that I hope will end up supporting ‘Track 7’ - ‘How Soon is Now?’ shortly after its publication (due on 25 Nov).
Thanks again for reading ‘Challenge 69’.
