Hi Brendan, hope you'll take this the right way, but I'm quite pleased I managed to send you down a few blind alleys this time!

I accept Victoria C-M is a bit like Marmite (personally I can't stand the latter but quite like the former), and (from memory) there aren't too many more specific Only Connect references in the rest of the book, but ...

... I'm afraid I can't give the same assurance about the challenges, which do continue to pan out in an increasingly convoluted way. It might be worth trying to find your 'lateral thinking' cap now.

Thanks Tim

I hope it did not sound like a complaint (which it wasn't) so I am happy to get my lateral thinking cap on for the future, esp since I now know I don't have to start watching Only Connect :) I am probably the ultimate contrarian in that in the case of Marmite .. I can take it or leave it ...

And also happy to give you the fun of fooling some of the people some of the time!

The challenge this time seemed, at least at first, harder than some previous ones - mainly because there are no clues as to the rules of any challenge, and hence many more blind alleys to go up as you try to guess what the rules may be, Tim's general hint about the Jam sent me in completely the wrong direction - I started ignoring the numbers and staring at the words - and then a quite limited, but very helpful hint just to me, enabled me to get the idea almost immediately after that... so now it seems like quite a straightforward challenge (why didnt I think of that etc !) but hindsight is a wonderful thing...

From some of Stuart''s musings in the rest of Track 4 I gathered that my loathing of Only Connect could have been a handicap here - I mainly can't stand the presenter's unfunny attempts at jokes and so I have never watched enough of it to get into the spirit .. with a different presenter I suspect I might even enjoy it but no sign of that ... Strangely enough I find her husband very funny so not sure if that means anything or not.. Maybe she should stick to Poker where I understand she is a bit of a genius.
